As I type this my feet are really, really cold. It's that whole coming-back-from-the-beach thing again. We also keep the heat pretty low to save energy, so it hovers around 64 F in here most days. Clearly I also need new slippers. Lupine, however is toasty warm and happy. She has new slippers. Wool plus recycled plus handmade equals cosy happy toes. Heaven? Um, yeah. They are from Wooly Baby.
I stumbled upon Wool Baby Slippers through fate and magic (plus a little time online) and Josie, Wooly Baby's mastermind/seamstress offered me a pair of slippers to review. I'm a sucker for other passionate, green small business owners so I was happy to check out their work and introduce you!

Clean: What is your company and how long have you been in business?
I began Wooly Baby in November of 2008.  Wooly Baby slippers are handmade from recycled wool sweaters and leather clothing. Parents love these slippers because they are soft-soled (the best for developing feet), non-skid (perfect for wood floors) and the high tops keep little ankles warm. A gentle elastic band keeps them on, too. Currently available in sizes newborn to 4 years and great for daycare, preschool, car trips, light outdoor use, and sleeping!
Clean:What inspired you to go into this line of work?
When my daughter was starting to walk I wanted (but couldn't find) some high topped wool slippers with leather bottoms.  My mom had given me a wool diaper cover made from a shrunken sweater and that gave me the idea of making slippers in the same way.  You can read more about my "eco roots" that have come full circle in this article:

Clean: How do you believe you and your business are bringing good into the world?
Wooly Baby uses nearly 100% recycled clothing as raw materials (did you know that only 20% of used clothing is donated back to thrift stores and only 15% of that is resold in the US as clothing??).  Other green practices include using a green soap for felting, reusing label backings for patterns, buying recycled paper products, and using a website host that offsets 100% of its electricity use with wind power credits.

Clean:What else should we know?

I'm working on youth and adult sizes now and hope to have them available this fall.  Thanks so much for supporting an eco-friendly business!

    We live in Appleton and I, too, keep the thermostat set to 64. My little girl hasn’t quite left “summer feet” behind, maybe these would tempt her!

    I purchased a pair for my two year old last winter, and would love a matching pair for my 2.7 year old and 0.7 year old!! 🙂

    I am already a wooly baby fan but will become a clean fan right now 🙂 in order to double my chances to win (and because I just discovered clean! — LOVE it!)

    These are perfect! We are bringing our 6 month old baby home to MN/WI/SD for Christmas (from WV) and are fretting about keeping her warm. Would be wonderful to win!
