The kids and I went out for farm chores after breakfast and didn't come back until lunch time.
Because the sun was shining (Wisconsin friends – I said the sun was shining), there was nothing on our schedule, and the creek was calling us home.
So I grabbed a jar of matches and one fire starter and we were off.
And these are the days I live for. Unplugged, outside, and with the people I enjoy most.
The holidays are lovely, yes, but I'm aching for more simple days at home.
We headed to the creek, the woods, the spring. Mr. Binks (the resident pet pigeon) showed up and decide the springhead was the perfect place for a bath.
And then we made a campfire, warmed our hands and talked by the fire.
It was simple, it was free, and it was just the right way to end this busy season.
I'd say 2015 is off to a lovely start.
Home and ritual. Those are the things that feed my soul as well. Rachel, how do you manage to get away so often? Who looks after the menagerie?
Good neighbors and a husband who likes to stay home. Today, however, we only went as far as our backyard – the best sort of trip away.
Sounds wonderful! And here in the desert we’ve had clouds and rain and snow! Happy 2015!
What a wonderful way to start off the year!
Quiet days can be some of the best. Lovely photos.
How lovely…
