When it rains everyday nearly all season long you find a new description of summer fun. For my kids its damming the rushing road-side water with firewood. Damming, splashing, umbrella-house-building… they are outside until their lips are blue and their cheeks are sore from smiling.
Bliss in the now in every sense.
There is something so magical about playing in the rain. I am a HUGE fan of it! That’s when the mists are low and the veil between the worlds goes thin…so they say…
Love this so much! We’re having a day just like that today. We don’t have them often in Colorado, so I enjoy it while I can. (even if my laundry is hanging sopping on the clothes line)
This is adorable!
Cassandra,
It makes so much sense to me. It is truly magical play.

Wendy,
Just this morning Sage said, Why are you using the dryer all the time when its summer and we have a clothesline? Then he looked outside as the rain began (again) and said, Oh, because theyd get soaked everyday? True, true.

that photo of the umbrella fort brought me so swiftly back to my childhood in missouri.
what fond memories, playing with my older brother in storms…crawling into our umbrella worlds to escape the worst of it.
though twenty years ago, it seems good fun never goes out of style.
thank you for sharing.
I remember doing that as a kid…so much fun!
rain play is great! My daughter was actually a little afraid at first so we had to get some books from the library about stomping in puddles and playing in the rain, then she loved the idea.
Sara,
You spun a lovely tale with your comment. Thanks for sharing. I can imagine Lupine remembering the same when she sees something as an adult someday as well. These are the moments that our lives are truly made of.

Abbie,
So lovely that your little one has a mama who helps her find her courage. Rain is magical as long as we can feel safe.

Sore cheeks!! That’s the best!!
oh, looking at these pics in this muggy, muggy New England summer is making me very envious for some much needed rain! nothing better than playing in the rain…love the umbrella fort
Send some rain my way! We are almost three months without rain now.
This is amazing!!! And its making me look forward to moving out of the city by the time my daughter is old enough to do this…Can’t have her missing out on all this fun!
Fun! We haven’t had as much rain as you have this summer…although 2 summers ago it seemed to rain every single day. I love warm rain – reminds me of the perfectly scheduled daily storms in the mountains of New Mexico during monsoon season. Ahhhh. 🙂 Cute photos.
So amazing! We’ve had so very much rain here. Last night – another deluge. Hope your garden is happy (somehow)!
I loved to play in the rain when I was a kid and now tha tI think about it I have never let my kids do it…I guess it is about time I did
