* A homemade nettle chai day… iced with honey almond milk. Without question the most delicious thing I have tasted in days (see below.)
* Our first full day on our version of "normal" food after abandoning the GAPS intro diet when the sight of a bag of lettuce brought me to tears and my children were begging to eat lemons. (It'll take us a while to get over those few long days of soup, stew, and broth from morning 'till night. Today when I poured my chai Sage recoiled and asked, "Mama, is that broth?!")
* A day with my family off on a quick adventure while I spend some quality time with my grandma's sewing machine, completing (I hope) two quilts to donate to Craft Hope's Project 13. (You might recognize the robot quilt. I've been working on it for… seven years. Whoa. All it took was a major natural disaster to get me to complete a quilt. Now I know.
*Memorial day… and like every year my heart is holding the vision of peace for all.
*Sunny, bright, and warm… suspiciously like as my sister put it "the elusive concept know as 'summer'."
*The first day we plan to put our canoe in the water this season, out on the lake with friends.
What does your Monday look like?
Sending heart-felt blessings to you all this bright and beautiful day.
xo,
Rachel
Our Monday has been deceptively cool. At 75 degrees here in Tucson we ate breakfast and lunch out side. Tomorrow it will be 101 degrees again. I’m thankful for a table full of friends eating home cooked food and toddlers running around with faces covered in watermelon juice. Later we’ll take a walk and try to enjoy the cool a little longer.
I love that laundry picture!
I don’t usually talk about this a lot, but my son had to go on a very, very restrictive diet when we were trying to track down allergens. as a result, our whole family diet became very sparse for a while. We spent about year trying to sort everything out, and I have to confess that it sort of put me off cooking. OK, honestly, I stopped loving cooking altogether and kind of started to hate it a little (or a lot). Trying to get back to enjoying it still. So, I admire you for stepping back from the GAPS diet and talking about it here. Good luck with everything :o)
Sorry that posted before I read it back — the GAPS *intro* diet rather! I just wanted to tell you that I really identified with what you said about the lettuce almost making you cry — I remember that feeling so well — spinning around 360 degrees in my kitchen trying to put my eyes on something we could actually eat. The experience affected us all pretty deeply. Best of luck :o)
A hot Monday here in Wisconsin. I gardened, Steve started a chicken coop & I am looking forward to the stars tonight. I hope you don’t mind but I linked to your blog about the nettles today. You did such a great job of talking about them. Thanks!

Amazing. It was 80 F here and we were suffering in the heat! Ah, perspective.
🙂
Lovely. Thanks, Barb! You are welcome to link any time.

I understand so well, Kara. I actually have shifted what we are eating so that we can all forget. I told the kids that well be back to daily broth again after a long break. I want there to be joy in food – how can a diet heal when we feel that we are suffering? All the best.
