Summer, it feels, is winding down.

The debilitating heat (and even the drought) are over. The nights around here have turned cool, the tomatoes are ripening, and we're prepping beds for late season crops.

Just this morning I was wondering where my wool slippers were stashed away. Because my feet were cold (for the first time in months).

Autumn, it seems, is just around the corner.

But before summer lets go we're going to hold it in our hands. We'll be outside – exploring and harvesting and discovering.

What might you find if you wander out beyond the trail?

A stash of acorns, ripe and waiting; an abandoned robin nest from months gone by; a wooly bear who also knows that it's almost time for rest…

This weekend.

Outside, where ever you are.

Will you hold it in your hands?

P.S. Day 1 of The Experiment that I posted about yesterday was a success beyond my wildest dreams. I'll tell you more next week!

P.P.S. Come back tomorrow when I'll be hosting a lovely interview and giveaway with Simple Loving Family.

We had a picnic and woods hike yesterday with some other like-minded families and it was absolutely wonderful. I’m enjoying the wind down of the summer and looking forward to milder temperatures and meeting my new baby. Thanks for the reminder to start the cool weather garden veggies and enjoy your weekend!

We will be holding the last bits of summer in our hands as we venture off for a week in the woods next week, surrounding ourselves with like minded community, nature connection and cultural diversity. Can’t wait.

Enjoy your final moments holding summer in your hands 🙂

I’m mourning for the summer that never came for us. We’re in the far NW near Canada and we’ve only had a couple days that hit 90 degrees. The rain didn’t stop until the end of July. I’m not complaining compared to the drought and unbearable heat everywhere else! My problem is some family issues that meant we’ve done…nothing. There’s nothing in the neighborhood to do, and with the urban sprawl from Seattle miles and miles out, you have to drive an hour to go anywhere pleasant. We actually tried on Wednesday, but the first 2 attempts were complete busts and by the time we got somewhere else, we had been in the car for hours and were just plain too exhausted to do anything but sit there for 30 minutes before leaving.
