Without debate, this year's celebration was unanimously voted the best Solstice ever.
Delicious, simple food.
Candle rolling.
Gingerbread house decorating.
Treats and sweets.
A visit from our friend and neighbor Dan.
Handmade gifts.
An the highlight for us all, a sunset hike to the woods and a campfire until long after dark.
Then we whispered our wishes for the coming season into the fire, and mindfully let go of the things that are holding us back.
And then… Christmas! We were off to Milwaukee to celebrate with my sister and my parents back home.
More simple sweetness and celebration.
And yes, more good food and treats. Oh, my.
An easy, magical holiday.
I even managed a whole day with a dear friend who's been by my side since high school. Such a rare treat.
And then, before we knew it, we were back home.
(Yes, and walking the goats.)
We're finding our groove on the farm once more, and counting our blessings with each sunrise and sunset over these hills.
Because no matter how wonderful the time away, it's always so good to be home.
How was your holiday, friends?
Simple celebrations are best. Now that December is nearly behind us, I’m getting ready to embrace New Year’s Resolutions, and one for our family is to do all our gift purchases next year from small businesses. Will you be doing a Valentine’s special, by any chance? 🙂 I noticed on Pinterest that Ginger Toys is giving 15% off with the code WELCOMEGINGERFOREST. (https://www.etsy.com/shop/GingerForestToys if you are interested). I’m going to be searching your archives for Valentine’s inspiration. Thanks for providing so much inspiration here each week!
I’ve realized that your kids are like the real life Martin and Sylvia. So fun! I went into the holiday’s with as much intention towards simplicity as possible. It was thwarted by a loving grandmother. But my girls enjoyed their holiday despite what I thought was over buying of gifts.
Will you talk more about goat owning? We’d really like to own a goat one day.
oh, Happy New Year!
Yes! My feelings exactly!
This is so funny. My kids have thought that Martin and Sylvia were really them for ages. Right down to their temperaments, struggles, and personalities. 🙂 And yes, I’ll talk more about goats soon!
