Sometimes as parents we forget to take care of ourselves.

With all that caring-for-others going on, it's easy to let our own nurturing slide.

When Sage was a newborn I actually would forget to eat. For days on end. That's a little disturbing to think about.

New mamas, I don't recommend this.

I ended up exhausted, depleted, and with more anxiety than I could sort though.

It took me months (years?) to figure out how to care for others while still caring for myself. I'm still not perfect at it and have to mindfully practice self-care so I don't lose myself in my job as mama.

So I'm here at Clean in part to cheer you on as you care for others, but also to give you a nudge to care for yourself.

A walk, a bath, a secret hidden chocolate bar in the laundry room.

Something just for you.

And no, it needn't be elaborate. Because a walk with a baby tied on your back can still qualify as self-care. Or a special cup of tea in the grass while your children gather pine cones. Simple. Reasonable. Real.

That's how we did it over here anyway.

In that spirit I'm hosting my own LüSa Organics giveaway today, to encourage a little self-love and self-care.

Because yes, our baby care line is easily our bestseller, but our body care (read: self-care) line deserves a little love and attention, too.

One lucky winner will bring home:

Leave a comment below to enter the giveaway! Feel free to snag a second entry by sharing this post on social media of any sort or via email to a friend. Leave a second comment to let me know you did so.

Comments are now closed. Congratulations to Sasha M. who said,

"I am admittedly terrible at self care since my littlest arrived. Someday I'll be better. :)"

And while I'm at it, how 'bout two special discounts for you sweet people? Then everybody wins.

Today's discounts are:

1. A free gift with any order of any size.

No matter what you buy we'll think of something fun to add, just for you. Of course the more you buy the bigger your gift, so knock yourself out.

To redeem just type "Self-care" in the comments field of any order placed before Monday, May 18.

2. Free US shipping on any order over $50.

Use coupon code "FREE50" during checkout. (Coupon expires May 25, retail customers only, please.)

And yes, you can double-up and use both coupons at once!

Have at it, and many thanks (as always) for supporting LüSa Organics. It makes my world go 'round. Because we're not a big company, we're a small family business.

And we notice and deeply appreciate each and every order you place. Without exception.

This is so important! There are SO MANY resources to get a mama through pregnancy, labor, and delivery and preparing for baby, but hardly any that truly prepare the mama for postpartum. Mamas need to be prepared for how crazy hard it can be, even if there are no issues with breastfeeding, depression, etc. Things that used to occur without thought – showering, drinking water, eating, sleeping – become daily goals that are incredibly challenging to reach. What a sweet treat for a mama to have some extra-special, totally safe, gorgeously-scented products to make the day a little brighter!

  2. Beth says:

  5. Julie Becker says:

Fun! I needed this today… Also needed to slow down and focus on me. This AM I gave up coffee, deleted Facebook from my phone, and I’m going to take the extra time to focus on how I can be a better me so I can be a better mom and wife and friend.
    X Julie

  6. Julie Becker says:

    Shared on FB!
I would’ve shared even if it would’ve meant another entry! 😉

  7. Abi says:

I am suffering today. Forgot to eat yesterday and have been sad, crying, questioning my mothering today (21 day old and 3.5 y.o.) will make it a point to practice self care more regularly. Thanks for the reminder!

  8. eidolons says:

I think it’s great that you highlight these things. Self care is so very important (I’m really bad at it, despite agreeing with you about this).

  9. Jessica Hughes says:

It’s taken me over 5 years (and 2 kids) to realize the importance of caring for myself. It’s so easy to lose sight of that.

  10. Brianna Ecklid says:

How lovely of you! I completely agree with this. Too often we forget that the mama needs JUST as much love, compassion, care, and nurturing as the child does <3

  11. Becky says:

Ohhh…Rachel, I wish I could tell you how many times you’ve had just the words I needed to hear, at the most perfect time. Serious synchronicity.

Sometimes I don’t know how to say ‘yes’ to my own needs. I would be interested to hear how you manage those times when your own self care is critical and yet there doesn’t seem to be any room for it. Thanks for the giveaway and thanks for always sharing your heart.

  15. Sam says:

This new Mom thing is so hard! Two months in and everyday I am learning the “balance” of our crazy but wonderful life. Haven’t even had the time to think about self care…what a concept. Self care was the topic of our mom and baby group yesterday….now reading this….I think someone is trying to tell me something! Thanks for the reminder.

  16. Lizzie says:

An important reminder. How are we supposed to care for others if we aren’t properly cared for ourselves?

  23. Laura M. says:

Well said! I find I have to schedule time in for self care, and still manage to forget it! Thanks for a chance at a great giveaway. 🙂

  24. Eva says:

You are soo right! Ever since I gave birth to my baby boy…now a bit over 8 months I feel I haven’t had any time for myself! Shower time is my only precious moment to have time to unwind and relax! Though I have gained some beautiful and invaluable family time 🙂 still, I need and make a note to myself that I will make the effort to take care of myself a little more, even if it is just a few minutes a day! We owe it to ourselves even if being a mamma inherently means that you care more for others than yourself!) if only to be in better disposition to do so! 😉 thanks for yet another inspiring post! Your words are a source of comfort, lately I have been rereading the ones you linked to on mother’s day for perspective and inspiration!

  25. Laura says:

Thanks for this friendly reminder, Rachel! I’m gearing up to move out of my parents’ house into my first apartment and sometimes I simply forget to shower/brush my teeth/breathe with all the packing. Thank you for this giveaway!

  26. sara says:

Just climbed into bed early at 8:30 to read; leaving dishes, laundry, scattered toys. Those things can wait…

  27. --anu says:

I am just relearning about self-care as my daughter is turning ten and starting to need to take more care of herself. And upon reflecting I am not the greatest role model. I almost feel like I did better as a mother of a newborn 🙂

Lovely! Moms need love, they have the most important and overlooked job in the world!!

  32. Jess says:

Self car definitely falls to the bottom of the list with a 3 year old and 10 month old but I’m working on it! I finally started exercising again and that feels great! Thank you for this giveaway!

  38. Ambra Baldwin Hart says:

I am still working toward that self/others balance. Thanks for all that you do!

  39. Rebecca Mack says:

I have six babies and I always forget to take care of myself beyond the basic upkeep. Like really nurture my soul, by giving myself time to empty my mind or eat that hidden chocolate bar without giving most of it away, or just being present in any given moment, silent and thoughtful instead of just waiting for the next to come and wondering what will come with it, a baby to nurse? A hand to hold? Making dinner? Checking school work?
I so appreciate your post about self-care. Just sitting in the grass while my children play nearby sounds like a dream!

  40. Sarah Austin-Hafner says:

Going through a divorce, being a newly single mom to an autistic child, working almost full time AND starting school in the fall means there is literally no time for self care, I would love to win this (besides having been a Lusa. Fan for years) this is a wonderful thing you’re doing, so thank you.

  41. LB says:

I wish I had time to make my own products, but since that seems to not be the case, I am glad for the beautiful stuff you offer!

  42. Juli Jakub says:

It is important! And I am so bad at it. Especially lately with my father passing away suddenly, my husband losing his job of 13 years, moving in with my mother on her farm with four horses, chickens, and two small children, and trying to figure out how to ease my kids through this transition plus figure out where we are going. I barely shower anymore! I find your blog and family an inspiration though! Thanks for being a voice of reason in a hard time for me!

  43. Brett says:

Sooooo wanting to try your products. Asked for some for Christmas but did not get them.

You are one of my two favorite bloggers. Keep speaking truth into our lives. We need to hear it.

  44. Jaime Corpany says:

I absolutely love your products! One of the reasons I buy them is to care for myself. My late husband always encouraged me to take time to care for myself. Your amazing products help give me that opportunity. Thank you for all that you do! 🙂

  45. Laura Facchin says:

What a wonderful post! I always laugh when people tell me to take some time to relax by spending time away from the baby. Some of my favorite “self care” moments are spent with her.

  46. Amy says:

This is so true and something that I have been neglecting. I find it’s a lot easier to take care of others and not me! Most days I am too tired being a mom of 5 with 19 month twins and studying to be a midwife!

  47. Spiritmama says:

Always such good advice only made better by adding on a Lusa giveaway. Would love to win this giveaway, thanks for offering it.

  48. Kelley says:

I tried a booty balm sample the other day and I’m impressed! It’s now on my list 🙂

  49. Shawnna webber says:

Such a great giveaway, thanks for thinking of us mamas & daddys (can’t forget them!)

  50. Sasha M says:

  54. Libby says:

I’m SO EXCITED to try some of the relaxing scrub and lotion bars and EVERYTHING!!! <3

  55. Kristina says:

So, I was just lying in the bathtub last night, using a sugar scrub on my hands and feet, thinking about how awesome LuSa is. Seriously, my children bought me LuSa soap for Christmas, and just having the bar of soap on the side of the bath is a treat when I’m relaxing. The smell is so wonderful. Thank you for following your dreams so we can have wonderful products.

  56. alexis moss says:
