And the winner to the LuSa Organics $25 gift certificate is:
Kristy who said:
Hello you new readers out there. I wanted to take a moment for introductions. I am Rachel Wolf, author to this little blog and owner of LuSa Organics. Today I am hosting my own giveaway (for a $25 gift certificate), so read on for details.
If I had to choose a single word to describe myself it would be passionate. I am passionately a mother, attachment parent, homeschooler, photographer, partner, writer, crafter, cook, gardener, nature-girl, and small business owner.
That's the short list.
My husband Pete and I founded LuSa Organics in 2007 after nearly a decade of a body care production on a hobby-scale. LuSa Organics is named after our two children, Lupine and Sage. Our best-selling Baby Care Line even bears an illustration of Sage at age two. And since we homeschool and run a home-based business? All these aspects of my life are woven so closely together that I can hardly tell one part from the next. Indeed. This is a family business in every sense.
We handcraft organic body care using the finest ingredients and the best chi around. LuSa has been featured twice in Mothering Magazine for our Mama and Baby Care lines and my craft projects have been recently featured on Whip Up, Crafty Crow, and Living Crafts Magazine.
It's a funny mix: crafty blog/organic body care business. But its my world. And my passion.
Since so many of you are new to LuSa I wanted to welcome you with one-day-only free standard US shipping on all LuSa Organics orders over $35.00. (Returning customers? This is the one you keep asking for! Enjoy.) Use coupon code "clean" on Saturday February 20th only.
And the Giveaway? Everyone loves a giveaway. Me especially. To participate simply leave a comment below with the name of a LuSa Organics product that you'd love to try and we'll draw a winner on Monday.
Invite your friends!
We are blessed with much to be grateful for. Family. Health. Safety. Home. Warmth. Water. Security. A good night's sleep. Loved ones. Did I mention safety?
As the depth of Haiti's crisis comes to light in my heart I am feeling this gratitude deeply, as am I feeling a need to make some good happen.
Through a friend I discovered Craft Hope, and etsy store where all proceeds are going directly to Doctors without Borders. If you are looking for (another) excuse to donate, this is a sweet way to do it. We spent allot of money over there that wasn't in the budget and it felt really good.
I also encourage all you crafty ones to fire up your sewing machine, warm up your knitting needles, or ink up your silkscreens. Craft Hope is accepting donations. We've just gotten some items off to them to list (a baby gift collection, a lip balm set, and an essential oil roll on kit edited: sold out! More listings soon!), and I encourage you to do the same.
While this blog has been focused mostly on our family and home life, I wanted to take a moment to remind you of what we also do: make the best organic body care on earth! As you experience the last

When we were first starting our body care business we made a lovely product called "Baby's Bath Bundle". Made with organic oatmeal, and calendula and lavender blossoms it was a wonderful alternative to soap for newborns. (Yes, despite what you may have heard, babies don't need soap. Soapless washing is best for their fresh, tender skin.)
We discontinued the Bath Bundle, but this week I have had two customers asking for them. Ideal for any skin (young or old), Bath Bundle is gentle, moisturizing, and lovely.
I recommend organic for all ingredients. Dried herbs can be purchased through your local food coop in their medicinal herbs section, or online through www.wildroots.com.
Ingredients
2 C rolled oats (quick rolled oats are preferred, but use what you have)
1/2 C dried calendula flowers
1/4 C dried lavender flowers
1/4 C dried chamomile flowers
Essential oils (any, all or none – avoid for babies under 6 months):
four drops lavender EO
one drop patchouli EO
Place all dry ingredients in a mixing bowl. Stir with clean hands or a wooden spoon to combine. Add essential oils and stir to combine. Store is a glass jar with a tight fitting lid in a dry, dark location. Bath Bundle will last at least 1 year.
Using your Bath Bundle is easy. There are two methods. Try both and choose your favorite.
Method 1: Tea Bag Brewing- Fill a reusable cloth tea bag with approximately 1/4 C Bath Bundle. Hold bag under running bath water and squeeze and massage to release soothing elements. (You can make your own tea bag by tying a double layer of cheesecloth into a pouch with string or by sewing muslin into a small drawstring bag).
Method 2: Loose Brewing – Scoop 1/4 C bath bundle into a teapot or cooking pot. Fill pot with hot water, cover, and steep until cool. Strain and press out any water. Add to your bath.
Bath Bundle is compostable after use, and if you choose the Tea Bag method of brewing you can also compost your worn cotton tea bags.
Enjoy!
We mentioned briefly the recent feature of LuSa Organics Baby Wipe Juice in Mothering Magazine.
For those who's mags are not yet in their hands, here is a peek inside. There we are in the bottom right, peeking out from a wipes warmer full of cotton reusable wipes. We're still smiling.
Mothering Magazine has played prominently into our growing into our roles of mama and papa; into become the parents and family that we are today. Mothering helped guide our decisions about vaccination and made us feel "normal" in our decisions about natural birth, homebirth, cosleeping, and gentle parenting.
If you are a parent and haven't picked up a Mothering Magazine yet (or for a while) I urge you to do so. It just might change your life.
We made it into Mothering Magazine again!
What a treat. I just received a phone call from a friend congratulating us… I didn't have any idea. This time the featured our Baby Wipe Juice on their Strokes of Genius page. Hooray!
Loaded to the roof and off we go! We hope to see some of you at the Living Green Expo in Minneapolis this weekend. Have a wonderful weekend, and see you back here on Tuesday!
We made it home from Milwaukee after Art Vs. Craft. The show was brilliant. We quickly sold out of lotion bars (clearly these will be in everyone’s stocking this year) and our soap of course sold crazy style with a line wrapping our booth for most of the day.
And then the snow came.
We were already packed and had piled into the car. As we headed down the freeway I called my mom, who was finally decompressing after four days of The Wolves. (She loves her grandkids, but let’s face it – we can be a bit much.)
"Its snowing," I said. "Really snowing like we might slide off the road into the ditch."
Silence.
"You can come back," said my mom.
So we did.
We spent an unintended night with my mom, and Sage played in the snow until he was soaked through. He actually talks to King Winter and can hear him answering. He is constantly chatting with him about making more snow and giving thanks for the snow that we have.
I heard him say to Lupine as he smiled through the windshield of the van at the mounting flakes,
"Don’t you wish you could make yourself really really big and go up into space and just hug the Earth for making snow?"
Enough said.
This Thanksgiving weekend (among many other blessings) we were thankful for snow.
When we began our business I had a litmus test for success and that was Mothering Magazine.

Each time I would vision “making it” it was proven when we were featured in Mothering Magazine. (For those of you unfamiliar with Mothering it is the be all, end all natural parenting magazine. A handbook for mamas and papas who choose to parent gently, naturally, and in harmony with the needs of their kids. Think homebirthing, co-sleeping, extended breastfeeding, and baby wearing for starters.)
Well, friends, we did it!
Our Postpartum Herbs were featured in this month’s edition, the September/October Special Pregnancy Edition. Time for a celebration. Visit our website and receive free shipping on your entire order. Simply use coupon code mama08 before September 15, 2008.
